Tampa General Hospital – CEP Substation Upgrades

This infrastructure project involved major upgrades to the campus’s existing medium-voltage distribution system. Two new unit substations were installed to provide both 480V and 4.16kV distribution to serve existing pumps, cooling towers, chillers, and related accessories. The project significantly enhanced system reliability and selectivity by introducing dedicated normal and essential medium-voltage feeders, incorporating coordinated primary relay protection at each substation, and eliminating consolidated failure points in the legacy system. Notably, the design features the first Eaton Vacuum Fault Interrupter (VFI) oil-filled transformers implemented on the TGH campus.
